Non-Competitive Event for Calabrian director Cristina Mantis’ documentary

Cristina Mantis, the Calabrian director who won the “Rai Cinema” prize at the international festival Visioni da Mondo, will have her documentary at the centre of one of the non-competitive events of the Film Festival that will be held in Cosenza 28th-30th April 2017.

The documentary – coproduced by Lago Film of Cosenza (realised by Solaria Film and distributed by Movimento Film) – recounts the dream of salvation that Cissoko Aboubacar, the African protagonist, has for his people and his land.

Cissoko is a war refugee who arrives in Italy and personally shows the extremely precarious position of those who flee to Europe with the dream of a better life. His desire to contribute to the revival of his people pushes him to take a small video camera and film the unattractive consequences of a western world in crisis, where the conditions of his brothers are often dramatically close to slavery. His return to Africa, to Guinea, to show his recordings in schools and villages, will extend a heartfelt appeal to end internal conflicts and free both people and the land.
